Beauty Profile: Bahar Etminan
At ModelCo, we definitely embrace this mantra “Everyone could do with a little more fabulous in their everyday life” which pretty much sums up the stellar online publication RESCU.com.au, founded by Bahar Etminan. We were lucky enough to chat to this lovely lady who not only has had an awe-inspiring career, but has also just launched her first book Rescu Me! which brings you practical insight and advice from the best experts in health, relationships and wellbeing, finances and career, fashion and beauty. Bahar first discovered beauty products at age 3 and has been slightly obsessed with the world of beauty ever since….
What is your go-to make up look and why?
I can do my make up very quickly with only a few products. I always use a foundation to even out my skin tone, I fill my eyebrows, apply a double coat of mascara and finish with a bright lipstick. I find coral and reddish pinks make my complexion instantly brighter and younger. If I have time, I do love to use a bronzer, blush and a bit of highlighter to create a more finished look.
ModelCo Tip: Like Bahar, we never leave the house without groomed brows! Our best-selling ModelCo More Brows is a handy, handbag sized tube that will quickly leave you with tidy, natural-looking, fuller brows in just a few strokes.
As a working mum, do you have any tips for a quick “get ready” routine in the mornings?
Don’t try elaborate eye make up or contouring in the morning! It’s also not the time to guess what you are going to do on your face. Maybe save the play and experimentation for the weekend and nights out.
Beauty essentials you can’t leave home without and why?
Sunscreen and Lipstick. Lipstick can be lips, blush and even eyeshadow. It’s the best invention on earth.
ModelCo Tip: Try ModelCo Crème Rouge for a sublime 2-in-1 creamy lip and cheek stain in the perfect shade of pink
What is your signature hairstyle and why?
I’m all about a bouncy blowdry. I have long, thick and coarse hair so I’ve had my hair washed and blow dried twice a week since I was 18. When I was 22 I met Joh Bailey and he changed my life…
Favourite lipstick shade and why…
Coral. It’s pretty, flattering and makes me look well rested.
Signature scent and why…
Right now, I am mad for Tom Ford Jasmine Blush. I love the body lotion even more than the fragrance as the Jasmine melts into my skin and lasts from morning to night.
Of all the beauty advice you have heard through your years in the industry, what resonates the most with you?
Clean your face before you go to sleep. No matter what. I have cleansing cloths in my top drawer at work, beside my bed, in the car because I believe the first step to beautiful skin is clean skin.
ModelCo Tip: We love the ModelCo natural skincare collection for a gentle yet effective skin cleanse. Try the ModelCo Exfoliating Cream Facial Scrub 2 – 3 times a week in for really polished skin.
Do you have an unconventional beauty trick?
Putting eyeliner on the inside rim of your upper eyelid instead of inside your lower lid makes your eyes look bigger and it’s less made up than a wing liner look.
Do you exercise? If so, what is your go-to regime and how do you factor this into your day?
Not a lot but when I do I’m crazy about Pilates and Power Plate. This summer we’ve been doing planks in the office on the hour every hour to tighten our abs and butts. It’s quite funny for any couriers that visit!
Describe a typical day’s food on a plate…
I love an Iso Whey shake with some added Michelle Bridges for Blackmores super foods and fresh straweberries added. I blend with ice in my Vitamix and pour it in a to go cup. I drink it on the way to drop off my daughter to school. I often have tuna rice paper rolls from the local Japanese hole in the wall for lunch or a turkey roll from Subway. I don’t cook a lot for myself but I do have salad with chicken or salmon for dinner. My mum cooks for me and fills my freezer so once or twice a week, I have an Iranian feast!
What do you love to do most in your downtime?
Read. I love reading books to my daughter and lying next to my daughter reading magazines, the newspaper or a book is my idea of heaven.
What was the last book you read?
The Goldfinch. I have mixed feelings about it. I wanted to read some fiction after writing my own first book RESCU Me! Which was a life make over book. I needed to get my head into a story…
What excites you most about 2016?
I believe that every day is New Year’s Day so the idea of a new calendar year for me is more about my longer term goals. I am excited for some travel, a secret project for the business which if I pull it off will be a game changer… Watch this space.
