Can I go swimming or work out right after I have applied by self-tan?

For the product to work as effectively as possible, it is recommended that you wait 6 – 8 hours before showering, swimming, or working out after your self-tan application. The self-tan needs time to develop and water or perspiration will hinder that process and could lead to streaking.

Once my tan has developed is it OK to go swimming?

It is advisable to wait 8 – 12 hours before swimming. The self-tan needs time to develop and swimming may lighten your tan prematurely, especially if you are in chlorinated water. It is recommended that you pat your skin dry with your towel – do not rub your skin vigorously.

Is ModelCo suitable for all ages?

ModelCo self-tanning products are suitable for all ages and skin types, however we strongly recommend a patch test is carried out at least 24 hours ahead of self-tanning to check for skin irritation, particularly for users under 16 years old

Is there a shelf life? What are the expiry dates for ModelCo tanning products?

Most ModelCo self-tanning products display an icon on the bottom right of the packaging. This icon informs how many months your product will be at its best after you open it. ModelCo TAN AIRBRUSH IN A CAN is packaged an aerosol can so there is no expiry date for this product.

How long will my ModelCo tan last?

Everyone’s skin naturally exfoliates at a different rate but typically a ModelCo Tan will last between 5 -7 days, and with good preparation and daily moisturising this could be considerably longer.

How often can I use ModelCo tan?

You can use ModelCo self-tanner as often “as needed”. In other words, if after three to five days, you notice your tan fading, you can do a light body exfoliation and re-apply.

How can I maintain my ModelCo tan once I have showered?

We recommend using ModelCo GRADUAL TAN daily, especially after showering or bathing to lock-in your color.

Will ModelCo tan protect my skin from sunburn?

Definitely not. Please be aware that none of the products in the ModelCo Self-Tanning Range contain a SPF rating. It is important to wear a sunscreen as recommended.

I have never used ModelCo before, is there anything I should be aware of before following the application instructions?

As everyone’s skin tone and type is individual to them, we highly recommend carrying out a patch test 24hrs prior to applying any tanning product for the first time.

How do you carry out a patch/skin test?

Apply a small amount of the self-tan product with a cotton bud to the inner crease of the elbow or behind the ear and leave dry for 24hrs. If any irritations occur such as redness, swelling, inflammation or itching, avoid using the product as this is a positive reaction for sensitivity. If no reaction occurs then it is safe to proceed with the full body application.

Will my tan streak or go patchy?

Most products within the ModelCo Self Tanning range contain a guide colour so you can see exactly where you apply it. This ensures a perfect application – only missed areas can give an uneven, or patchy finish. If you’re applying a lotion, cream or mousse, use the ModelCo BLEND BUFFING MITT for optimum results. ModelCo GRADUAL TAN and NATURAL TAN ranges do not contain a guide colour but the products do leave a wet sheen on the skin so you can easily see where you have applied.

Can I use ModelCo self-tan if I am pregnant?

We recommend consulting with your doctor before using any product during pregnancy.

Can use use ModelCo self-tanning products on your face?

Absolutely! All products are safe to use on the face. You may find that your tan fades quicker on your face and this is most probably due to using face creams or cleansers which contain exfoliating properties. It is best to stick to a facial moisturiser whilst your face is self-tanned.

How long should I leave ModelCo ONE HOUR TAN on for?

Wait 1, 2 or 3+ hours depending on your desired shade, then rinse off the tinted guide colour with warm water only. Your tan will still continue to develop over the next 24 hours after your initial shower, however, it is the length of time that you leave the tan on for before showering, that is the critical time for deciding the deepness of the tan.

Following your shower, skin will have a light golden base colour that will continue to develop and deepen in colour over the next 24 hours.  For these who prefer a dark tan, leaving the tan on for a maximum of 4-5 hours before showering will result in the deepest, darkest tan.
