Bronzer vs. Blush

While you may use bronzer or blush on a daily basis, do you ever wonder if you’re doing it right? We asked renowned makeup artist, Rachael Brook to answer your commonly asked questions once and for all, and help you get supermodel cheekbones in the process.

What’s the difference between blush and bronzer?
Bronzer is generally used to create a tanned look and also for light contouring on the face. Blush is used to give your cheeks a naturally flushed effect. [magento_product id=”306″ title=”1″ link=”1″ price=”1″ align=”right” ]

In which order should they be used, and where?
Use bronzer first, and blush second. I apply bronzer slightly underneath the cheekbones to lightly contour, on the tops of the cheekbones, a light sweep across the forehead and a little under the chin too. Then I add blush to the very tops of the cheekbones.

So you can use blush and bronzer together?
The best trick to making your cheeks the perfect colour is to apply bronzer and blush together.  The combination of the two gives you the most natural finish possible. The success of a perfect blush/bronzer combination is an exercise in proper placement. Your cheeks have more than enough room for both so remember, these rosy shades design to mimic a natural flush have no place on the hollows. And vice versa.

Can bronzer help accentuate your cheekbones?
Absolutely, it just needs to be applied to the correct areas.  Applying bronzer under your cheekbones is a great way to help make them stand out. Always opt for a matte bronzer (ModelCo Bronze in Matte) as opposed to a shimmer when using it as a contouring tool. Chiselled cheekbones should never sparkle.

So when should I use shimmer bronzer?

What’s the trick to looking bronzed but not “dirty”?

When it comes to blush, should I use a cream, tint or powder?
It depends on personal preference, as well as the makeup you are already using.  I love a cream blush, as it gives a soft, natural glow. However creams don’t have a lot of staying power. How do I know if I’m wearing the right shade of blush?
If you look overly embarrassed, you’re not on the right track.  Try to choose a colour that isn’t much darker than your natural skin tone.  Peach shades suit most skin tones because of the colour balance. Never forget that when in doubt, less is always more.
