Woman Crush Wednesday With Manahou Mackay
Endearing, fearless and a role model in her own right, ModelCo ambassador Manahou Mackay from Auckland, New Zealand is one girl we’re constantly fawning over. Not only does she have lust-worthy skin we can only dream for, but she truly embodies confidence like no other. Manahou was the first ever transgender model to walk at New Zealand Fashion week and has since gone on to become a globally recognised name in the worlds of fashion and beauty.
A major fan of ModelCo Tan Water, Manahou gave us an insight into her authentic approach to life and beauty, and how she builds on her confidence daily.
What’s your everyday approach to beauty?
Moisture is key. I am a skincare enthusiast so when I’m not working, I am generally walking around in public drenched in moisturizer. I will do a face mask literally anywhere. If I have meetings, I will conceal discolouration, bronze a touch and brush the brows up.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
Follow your intuition to a place of joy. That is where you are meant to be.
What is one thing people don’t know about you?
That I speak Maori fluently. And can put both my legs behind my head
What is the biggest challenge in your job?
Staying true to your values.
Are you a goal-setter? If so, what influences you to set them?
I don’t set individual goals per se; however, I do have a vision of who I would like to be in the future.
How do you stay focused and centred when you’re in a stressful situation?
I step back and wonder if I will even remember this a years’ time.
What mistakes have you learnt from, and ever benefited from in your life?
Spending so much time living without intention, life completely unexamined, following the path of least resistance. Admittedly I still follow this path, however as my approach to the day evolves the flow of the path changes.
If you were stuck on a desert island, what are 3 beauty products you’d take with you?
SPF, 8-hour cream, Creme de Lamer
When you’re meeting someone knew, what’s the first thing you notice about them?
Their most consistent facial expression!
If you could have one night out with anyone living or dead, who would it be?
Socrates
What would tell your younger self about confidence?
Care about the opinions of people you respect, the rest is white noise
